Studies have clearly identified a prevalent, but not optimal biomechanical (movement) strategy in the right side dominant human population. This movement strategy encompasses the entire musculoskeletal system and can affect people to varying degrees. Protonics was designed to restore and promote optimal biomechanics.
Why Protonics is Needed - A Biomechanical Explanation
Core stability is an extremely common term among sports medicine and sports conditioning professionals. Accepted kinesiology texts include five muscular groups as the primary stabilizers of the core; the abdominals, the back muscles, the quadratus lumborum, the psoas, and the muscles that connect the pelvis with the legs.
The last group of muscles mentioned could technically include several paired muscles. Until recently these muscles have been thought of least as part of a core strengthening program. The emphasis for years has been on abdominals and back extensor strength. Finally, we are beginning to see more literature and discussion on the role of the gluts in maintaining healthy knees, hips and backs, but there is still a missing link. What about the hamstrings!
Most people don’t think of the hamstrings as ‘core stabilizing muscles”, but actually they are the longest and could be argued the most influential core stability muscles we have. It is ironic that so many athletes are always trying to keep these muscles stretched out. On the contrary they need to be short and tight enough to be able to oppose (counteract) all the muscles that have anterior rotation force or leverage on the pelvis, specifically the back extensors and the hip flexors, which tend to be very strong on most athletes. The hamstrings must also be strong enough to oppose excessive anterior translation force of the tibia (the lower leg) which has huge implications for ACL integrity.
Protonics devices were designed to help promote proper muscle activation and reverse the cause of right-side dominance by functionally requiring key hamstring muscles on the left side of the body to activate properly prior to activity or fitness circuit exercises. By reinforcing the correct muscle firing pattern, the athlete can perform in a balanced state even after removal of the Protonics device. This allows the athlete to maximize the amount of available strength, speed, and agility, while helping prevent more problematic symptoms.
The Protonics has been extensively tested by college and professional athletes, and through some of the top clinical faclities in the world. To view Protonics testimonials and peer-reviewed studies, please contact:
